The facilitator finds an experienced mindfulness trainer and asks for a counselor to be on standby (near the training space) in case people need to talk during or after the training. The facilitator also informs participants beforehand (through a private form of communication) that if they are struggling with trauma-related fear, unrelenting depression, or a severe psychological imbalance, then this compassion practice may be inappropriate for them as it could cause emotional flooding or a sense of being stuck. Let the participant know there is a safeguard in place if they choose to participate.
The facilitator writes out the acronym RAIN (+ what it stands for) on a whiteboard or flip chart.
