Activity 6: Expression and Suppression of Prejudice
Activity 6: Expression and Suppression of Prejudice
Objectives: The objective of this activity is to help people better understand their own prejudices. During the activity participants will recognize, maybe even rationalize, and justify their own prejudices against certain groups. Our own awareness is also important in the sense and context of micro-aggression, especially the beliefs based on which we assert our own justified justification for not accepting others. Wherein it is necessary to clearly distinguish between the action of another person (with which we may disagree) and our personal messaging and exclusively punitive messaging.
Duration: 60 minutes
Group size: Any size works, but smaller groups of six to eight people are ideal.
Material: Handouts and pens
Method: Discussion, reflection
Instructions: This activity works best if completed in two class sessions. In Session One participants complete the measure list, during session two participants discuss their findings.
