Step 6: Reflection

The facilitator briefly asks a few questions to check in with the participants (10 minutes).

  • How did this exercise make you feel?
    • Did you still feel defensive? If so, what did you do?
  • How did you approach the conversation with the person you unintentionally committed a micro-aggression to?
  • Was there anything during this training that surprised you?
  • What was it like to do this exercise with someone else? What was the point of that?
    • Buddy Talk: someone you can talk to about this topic, who can help you process and validate your emotions, who can hold you accountable, who can help you practice your non-defensive responses, and the other way around.
  • What have you learned from this exercise? What will you take with you?
  • How does this exercise and what you are learning from this exercise translate into your job or work?
