The facilitator asks the participants to brainstorm examples of micro-aggressions that they know. The facilitator writes these down on a whiteboard or flip chart (5 minutes). Examples can include:
Commenting on someone’s accent or asking where they are “really” from.
Using insensitive language, such as “crazy” or “retarded.”
Interrupting or talking over someone in a meeting.
Making assumptions about someone’s abilities based on their race, gender, sexual orientation, age, or disability status.
