As a white woman, I always worked on my implicit bias and I looked into when and how they are displaying. Despite many years of working in the field of inclusion, my own thoughts are still impacted by implicit bias. For example, when I was walking to the park, I saw a man who appeared to be Roma walking out of someone’s home. My initial thought was that he might “robbed the house”. In a second, I was horrified, how did that happen? Regardless of my work and my commitment to be conscious and fair, or my close relationships with Roma colleagues, and my knowledge of implicit bias, my brain made a prejudicial hasty judgment about who someone was.
