Step 1: Outsiders’ Emotions

Explain that this exercise will help to experience »internal state« of exclusion and inclusion.

Ask participants to think of a time when they were in a group but felt excluded and different from others.

Each participant thinks of one or two words that describe how they felt at that time.

After the time to think of the words, they walk around the room, introducing themselves to as many people as possible, using those words.  Provide an example (e.g., Hi! I’m awkward and confused.)  Another option for this group activity is to use stickers. The facilitator collects the results to the group, using the flip chart.
