Step 1: Lean back

Notice the feeling of emotional impulse in the body

Check in to your body posture: Are you leaning forward? Are the muscles in your belly clenched? Is your voice mute or tense, or even high pitched and hurried? Is your head down?

Time to lean back!

Stop what you are doing and shift your body posture into a leaning-back posture. This can be sitting back or shifting your weight backward while standing. If you are standing, sense your heels rather the balls of your feet. If you are sitting, feel the back of the chair; sense your sitting bones.

Let your gaze be relaxed. Imagine you are looking from behind your eyes, as if you are dropping backwards into your eyes. You might gently look around and move your eyes and head slowly as if you are scanning the horizon.

Do this for one or two minutes.

Notice what changes. Was there a small mood shift? Did you notice the detail you had not before? How is your mood now?
