The facilitator asks the participants if they know what micro-aggressions are, and names a few examples of micro-aggressions for anyone who does not know (or does not dare to say they do not know). Then the facilitator asks the participants a few questions to reflect on experiences they have had with micro-aggression (10 minutes in total). For example:
Now that I hope you are all feeling comfortable and open, I want you to close your eyes and think about a time when someone said or did something that made you feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, or like you were an outsider. You do not have to tell us about the details of this experience, those can stay with you. I just want you to think about it for a moment.
After a minute of silence, the facilitator asks the following questions:
Answer them to yourself first, then discuss them with the person seated next to you.
a.How did that experience make you feel?
b.How has that experience impacted your sense of belonging and feeling included?
c.How do you still carry that experience with you?
